After writing, I realized that it was choppy and did not flow at all, but it was a great start because I was able to get ideas about how I wanted to format it. On the first day, I did not think about editing it or making it flow because my goal was to write down ideas on what I wanted to talk about. The next day, I did the same thing and thought about the things that would separate me from the rest.
On this day, I started to format sentences and tried to say meaningful things without a lot of words since some schools only wanted a two-page personal statement.
The key would be to not stress about making it perfect the first time. Just write whatever comes to mind and worry about grammar, sentence structure, and wording later. One of my schools had a couple of questions they wanted me to address in the personal statement, so I used that as a guide for all of my letters but altered them based on the length.
In the letter, I also wrote about things that were specific to the school I was applying to. For my other school, I noticed that they do not have a bilingual emphasis, so I wrote about how being bilingual would benefit them. NOTE: You are amazing and have worked so hard for this! Tell them why they need you at their school, slp grad school personal statement. Tell them about how your experiences have shaped you to help others.
Remember, there is only one of you! I read my letter to two people and had one of my friends who was getting her masters in another field edit it. Sometimes when you have too many people from the SLP field read it, things can be missed since they know what you mean and understand the SLP lingo. She was able to question things and helped me format it differently.
I only applied to two schools because going out of state was not part of my original plan.
